Sep. 22nd, 2007 12:31 amfor I have his cushions and it is Good.
I also have his black wine goblets and his tray with a scaly hand wearing a large ring, but they're in the office waiting to be collected next week. I'm somewht overawed at the level of the farewll collection; either peole are sorry to see me go, or they're patying to make sure I never come back.
Typing via beer & sake (the hangover-free, memory-free drink) & gin, btw.

Oh, super.
May. 9th, 2007 04:27 pmMy home PC is still carrying on as usual - that is, CHKDISKing every time I turn it on. I haven't disabled it (although thankyou, for the instructions) cos I'd like to *know* when it's about to fall over completely.
No, instead my work computer has fallen over. It got as far as letting me enter my power on password, then informed me that it had a "Missing Operating System". Since the hard disk is encrypted, IT are having something of a challenge getting it fixed.
And so I have a stopgap machine with teeny tiny display settings that I can't change and which doesn't have the e-mail address book loaded.
Super, indeed.
Meanwhile, I've been and looked at the
springkink prompts to date. There aren't nearly enough in recognisable fandoms ;) However, I *did* read through and think, "Oooh, I hope
louiselux picks that", and "that's been put there in the hope that
daegaer gives it a good home". It's interesting seeing which from the first round have inspired similar / possible follow ups this time, too :)

Death & Taxes!
Apr. 25th, 2007 02:42 pmYesterday I was evil for torturing gingerbread men. Today I'm twisted :)
M commented that someone had won £25k by betting that they'd live to 100. I simply said that it would be better to bet on one's parents living to a certain age, because then inheritance tax wouldn't be an issue on the winnings.
Apparently that's not a normal response. Seems perfectly logical to me...

It's Friday!
Mar. 30th, 2007 10:31 amI'm re-reading Saiyuki, have finally got around to adding
radiofreebanri, and (as always) am plumbing the depths of the net for readable Weiss Kreuz stories.
All of which has got me wondering: what would happen is Farfarello's earrings were actually youkai limiters? It would certainly make a Saiyuki/WK crossover less unbalanced (if that's the right word for two series full of characters who are just that).
Sometimes, I wish I could write more than ficlets.
====
Also, I have next week off. No work til 10 April! I'll be visiting the Parent People for a couple of days midweek, so Dad can reassure himself that the Car isn't going to fall apart underneath me, bot otherwise have no plans beyond decluttering a bit (no, really, this time).
Have just found a split end that looks more like a feather than a hair, the number of splits it has. It's quite impressive.

E-mail to me from manager #1
Jan. 3rd, 2007 02:30 pm"I know there's lots to do but can you multi task mind reading with juggling?"
Yes. Yes, of course I can. Perhaps I could learn the bullet catch as well?
Hear that sound? That's me banging my head on the desk.
ETA I told him I'd be doing the bullet catch next. Apparently I'm to make sure I'm facing towards him, in case I miss. Lovely.

Nov. 7th, 2006 12:26 pmI had to get up at 7am this morning. I actually did get up at 8am this morning. It isn't civilised, I tell you. Any sensible person would wait til the world had warmed up a bit (say, until 10.30) and then stay up late to make the most of the residual heat being radiated from a planet that had spent 9 hours or so being heated up by the sun.
I've been steadily tidying up my LJ tags to merge those with only one use into existing more common ones. My life appears to be mainly grupming about work and men (and yes, this is another one). I need to get out more.
Got all Inspired for another WK fic last night (by Don Henley - I'm so rock 'n' roll, me). Can't quite think how to start it though. It has the potential to be An Epic, or alternatively tiny. Am also being given Bad Ideas by
wk_100's latest challenge ("Trapped"). No, really; when I say "bad", I mean "claw your brian out and stomp on it".
No further progress on Branching Out, either in RED or ORANGE. I have, however, knitted 15" of Wavy. It looks like a translucent tortoiseshell cat's tummy. The wiggly ribbing is starting to show up, though not as clearly as in the picture on knitty.com; that's what I get for knitting it out of fairy sheep instead of DK.

Well, we got the necessary done by 7pm, and Manager's #1 child is being part of Background Scene for a tv series on monday, so I don't need to be in on Monday either.
Considering it worked out at only a 46 hour week, I'm exhausted. Mind you, a normal week is only 30 across 4 days.
I'm too braindead even to watch Buffy (season 2, borrowed from
snapesbabe) so I'm engaging in a futile search for WK fanfic that doesn't treat Farfarello as a retarded near-animal only capable of saying a couple of sentences, or YnM fic that doesn't appear to have been written by 12 year olds who believe that "and they kissed and it was All Better!!!" is an acceptable resolution to a page-long story about two mortal (immortal? whatever) enemies. But maybe I struck lucky in finding
daegaer,
mami_san and
lady_jaida at the outset.
And I'm putting together a "So beautiful it hurts" playlist. Does anyone have any ideas what I should put on it? It's not necessarily a maudlin feeling-sorry-for-myself list; more things that can take my mind off almost anything else, like Hallelujah (kd lang), Possession (Sarah McLachlan), My Immortal (Evanescence) and Father & Son (Cat Stevens). Go on; inspire me.

Aug. 25th, 2006 09:47 amYesterday: 11 hours.
Today: in at 8; likely to be another long day.
Saturday: Depends on how late tonight is.
Sunday: Blackpool Zoo with
nannyo.
Bank Holiday Monday: Buggered if I'm getting into work before 9am on a Bank Holiday. Yes, work. Humbug.
I'm telling myself it'll be worth it when all this hits the headlines in a couple of weeks. There's nothing quite like seeing the front page (even if it's just of the Business section) & thinking "I did some of that".

Though "At tax accounting" sounds even less impressive than "at teh intarwebz", doesn't it?
My Prior Year Adjustments From Hell from yesterday turned out to be Right. 100% right. As in Manager saying "Oh, I understand it now" about the new standard.
Right then. *Rubs hands together* That's my achievement for the day. Can I go home now?

Today was the first day in 10 days that I've got up before 9am. The first day in a week I've got up before 10.30am, in fact.
It's the first day I've worn contact lenses in that time; the first day I've worn makeup, the first day I've worn a skirt, and the first day I've worn heels. Last night was the first time I shaved my legs in a fortnight.
It's also the first time I've had a Starbucks in a week, but that doesn't make up for being back at work and not in bed with one cat curled round my head and the other on my tummy.
I want to be back at home, writing crap for
wk_100 and thinking I really *must* get something done before my break's over.

princesspy is a Bad Influence. After the picture she posted of her sparkly black ballet slippers, I Went Shopping.
Unfortunately, Accessorise had sold out of size 5s. More unfortunately, I found the Monsoon sale rails. For £73 I got a skirt, a pair of linen trousers, a long-sleeved t-shirt and a victoriana blouse. All in black, and all either 50% or 70% off :)
Then, of course, I had to check Barratts for the blue furry leopard print shoes that
pink_weasel had mentioned. They were nowhere to be seen, but a lovely pair of red satin ballet pumps were - for £5. Ooops.
To top it all, my "ok, let's go to Tesco's to stock up on cheap beans & baked potatoes, cos that's all I can afford now" trip revealed some lovely sparkly black ballet slippers.
Arse.

Jun. 9th, 2006 09:57 amI'm in work In Case I Need To Be, which is about par for the course atm and part of the reason for setting off the Bloody Awful Day on Wednesday. Consequently, I'll be driving home *tomorrow morning* rather than this afternoon and getting through Vast Quantities of Petrol as I'll undoubtedly need the aircon. Bah.
Anyway. Just poked around the TG site and found JM's write up of how the active diff and anti-lag in the P2 work. Makes perfect sense to me; I don't know why Dr Dr Clarkson had a problem with it ;) Can we have some sums next, please?

May. 19th, 2006 02:19 pmToday is dress down day in aid of the Prince's Trust. Apparently I've disappointed people by not wearing a corset. New Rocks & a Cyberdog top aren't enough.
I've been pleasantly surprised (in a *mental slap stop staring* way) by a couple of people here. Blimey; I never expected to see pecs and buttock dimples on a chartered accountant.
I've drawn Shahbaz in the Big Brother sweepstake. Not that I watch it.

I want a RESET button.
May. 13th, 2006 04:13 pmI'm having one of those days where I wish I could just go back to bed & start again. Except that I had a nap on the sofa in lieu of a time machine, and it didn't work.
Sometimes, I'd like not to be proved right when I expect the worst of someone.
After a week of bright sunshine & heat, it started raining last night & hasn't stopped. My lawn is now cat depth all over.
Guess what? I still haven't got any thinner.
It's annual review time at work in 3 weeks. Nothing has changed sone the interim review 6 months ago. They're apparently desperate for staff, and yet at the same time seem set on keeping me poking numbers around spreadsheets and telling hopeless clients how to do double entry over the phone. I've given them a list of what I'm interested in; they say there isn't anything available in that area atm, then the weekly newsletters claim we're only not doing that sort of project because of being short staffed.
I really don't like my car.

Apr. 28th, 2006 11:33 amOk; 3 beers & 2 glasses of wine *might* have something to do with it, but I maintain that gettiing to bed around 1am is the main reason I feel so knackered & dead today.
For a "Young Professionals'" event organised by the chartered accountants' students' society, it was actually rather fun. Course, wearing a long pvc skirt & Fallen Angel corset meant that I stood out rather, among the hordes of M&S / Phase Eight / Monsoon slip dresses. I certainly seemed to scare a few people, which was Good (certainly better than pulling them. Pull an accountant? What a horrible thought...), and made one woman fall off her heels laughing (she complimented my outfit but added "apart from the bruises", to which I replied "They were worth it..." It took a few seconds to sink in, but my grin seemed to help).
Lots of money raised for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, lovely food (The Midland Hotel's been taken over since the last black tie do I went to there), the DJ played "9 to 5" and there was a Bentley parked outside on the way out. Not certain I want to think about how the Get Fit Plan is going, though.

Feb. 1st, 2006 10:21 amI'm bored.
I haven't been givenn a portfolio yet, I've finished the piece of work that kept me busy last week, and the next one lined up doesn't start until tomorrow. That's out in Leigh on an industrial estate - nothing like a bit of mid-week glamour to up the excitement. I think I might have been misunderstood when I was jumping up & down & demanding to be let back onto the truck jobs; this one's Norbert Dentressangle, who might drive the things, but don't make them, and it's the manufacture that's the fun bit. The production line at Leyland Trucks looks like the biggest Meccano set In The World Ever - you start with a stick of metal and bolt bits on as it goes back & forwards along the floor until you have a custom-built truck. It's fabulous, and I want that client back, Now.
I dyed my hair last night; inch long roots make me look as if I'm going thin on top. Unfortunately, I left it a little late & didn't have time for the proper conditioner afterwards. As a result, I'm Static Girl! today. Sensitive hair nothing; I look as if I've had a balloon rubbed against my head.
Made the mistake of looking at
theladiesloos this morning in my boredom. The CJTC is still there, and it still appears impossible to criticise the community without being flamed, insulted & told to shut up & go away.
Anyway, the weekend in Shropshire was excellent. I should resolve to go on holiday with chefs (professional & otherwise) more often.
professoryaffle is a superb organiser,
minspi needs to work less (or I'll bring out the guilt trips),
dr_wez made monkeks,
nurse_liz is a Glorious Leader,
nannyo a fab knitting partner,
rms a well trained wool bitch,
geekpsi wore a kilt, and the others proved that you don't need an LJ to be Real People. Photos are pending approval.
